Help! I Just Graduated, What Do I Look For In A Supervisor?
You just graduated and have no idea where to start in looking for a supervisor. I’m here to help. In looking for a supervisor, look for someone knowledgeable about the field, passionate, and able to meet you where you are while seeing your possibilities for growth. I love working with residents and helping you find your areas of passion and develop those, while supporting your growth in the field of counseling.
What Areas Can You Help Me With As A Supervisor?
As a supervisor, I have specialized in many different areas. I have a passion for kids, teenagers, and adult women.
If you are looking for support in treating trauma, I am prepared to support you. You will leave supervision with me understanding how to work with even the most intense of trauma cases and interventions that you can use for every client.
If you are looking for support in working with children and families, I am the supervisor for you. By the end of our time together, you will be able to understand how trauma gets passed down in a family, ways to change and support the family system, types of parenting and how to implement appropriate parenting techniques, and how to handle all of the different challenges that will be thrown at you as a child therapist.
If you are looking for support in treating women, I am here for you. We will examine parenting, how to help them support their relationships, perinatal mood disorders, and life cycle stages.

What Does Supervision With You Look Like?
Supervision with me will take place an hour a week, on Zoom. Via Zoom I will be able to show you coping skills I trust and love, helpful resources, and support your growth wherever you are in the state of Virginia.

In supervision with me, we will explore what cases are currently challenging you, your strengths, and your areas for growth. We will work on identifying and growing your theoretical orientation and what interventions suit both you and your clients best. I want you to leave supervision with me feeling confident to handle some of your most challenging cases and having an understanding of how to move forward with your sessions.
What Are The Steps To Becoming A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)?
The first step to beginning the process of becoming a licensed professional counselor is to know and understand the requirements listed on the Virginia Board Of Counseling website. From the Virginia Board of Counseling website, you will be able to better understand the application process and forms needed to become a resident in counseling. As a part of our supervision, I will be able to guide you in the application process and understanding what is required of you to become licensed.
What Are Your Fees to Take Me On As A Resident In Counseling?
Current fees are $110 an hour. As a resident, you are required to meet weekly with your supervisor per the Virginia Board Of Counseling regulations.

Can I Work Somewhere Else And Have Supervision With You?
Yes! You Can. I will ask that you ask your on-site supervisor for confirmation, but it is possible to have a supervisor outside of your worksite and can in fact be helpful in getting a different viewpoint on challenges with your clients.
